Journey

"Hi.   I'm from Embarq and I'm going to Embarq you up your ass and there's nothing you can do about it."

This is why I haven't had a land-line telephone in 5 years.   Last week I got a phone line from Embarq, $29.99 a month and another $15 a month for unlimited long distance.

Last night, I go to dial a long-distance number and a fucking robot tells me, "Your long-distance service has been temporarily discontinued.   Please call customer service for assistance."   The long-distance worked fine for a week and then stopped on a Friday afternoon.   How convenient.

I call customer service and there's nothing they can do because there is no supervisor on duty!

In the olden days, you could at least run up a long-distance bill.   Now the damn phone won't even let you dial long-distance, and I'm paying for long distance service!

I think this is their way of getting me back for refusing to give them my social security number.

As far as I know, a public utility cannot refuse you service for not providing your social security number.   Water, gas, electric and phone.   They can ask for a deposit, which I gladly offered to pay, but they decided they didn't need it.   The woman on the phone taking my order assured me, "We do not share your information with anyone."   To which I replied, "Yeah, until one of your employees leaves a laptop with 40,000 customer records on it in an airport restroom."

"And do you know what large companies do after they accidentally leak your data?", I asked the woman.   "They give you one year of free data monitoring."   That shut her up and that's probably when she pushed the "Rescind long-distance on Friday afternoon button" on my account.

I use via:talk, $240 for two years ($10/mo) unlimited service. I didn't give anyone any of my ID numbers - just wrote a check.
When companies or doctor's offices "demand" my SSN, I simply make one up or give my employee number (conveniently 9 digits).

Internet = Cox = $35/mo
VOIP = via:talk = $10/mo
TV = don't watch = $0

"Embarq" sounds like another way to say BOHICA

Channel 8 sucking off my scoop of the pronstar billboards. At least Lavi actually linked to me in his post.

Apparantly Embarq has succeeded in silencing our gracious host.

I warned Lavi not to test.

Hopefully Lavi will someday return from his exile in the dire Embarq wastelands, an inhospitable place far from the Flower in the Desert. He does battle with the fearsome Phone Agent who would threaten to sever his access and other dire consequences of one who would dare challenge the mighty Embarq.

Alas poor Lavi, we knew him well.

Every now and then when your life gets complicated and the weasels start closing in, the only cure is to load up on heinous chemicals and then drive like a bastard from Hollywood to Las Vegas ... with the music at top volume and at least a pint of ether.

Dedicated to the other side of Las Vegas, namely; the sprawling, mad, incoherent underpinnings of the world's favorite destination.

That, and the occasional ranting about nothing in particular.
