Sailing out of Vegas

Just waitin' for the tide to come back in.

(Actually, this is along Hwy 58, well into California, but what the hell, it's a blog. Shocker, I take liberties!)

I've wanted to take pictures of this boat since about '93. Meanwhile some wag went and painted "SS Minnow" on the other side, which, although funny, pretty much spoiled the formerly stark incongruity.

I know it was a shock the first time I saw it. I wanted to stop, but you come down between a couple of hills and there it is and then it's gone. I finally took the time to drive an extra 5 miles or so to find a road back around to it, got out of the car and hiked across a field, through a ditch and finally back up the berm of the highway to snap a few shots.

I didn't stop on the highway because I wanted to take my time and I didn't want to test the mood of any passing CHiPpies.

Thanks for stopping by.

Every now and then when your life gets complicated and the weasels start closing in, the only cure is to load up on heinous chemicals and then drive like a bastard from Hollywood to Las Vegas ... with the music at top volume and at least a pint of ether.

Dedicated to the other side of Las Vegas, namely; the sprawling, mad, incoherent underpinnings of the world's favorite destination.

That, and the occasional ranting about nothing in particular.
