Cheer

Who does not believe that it is a great time to be alive?

Of course, if you're suffering from inoperable cancer or you've been shot in the face in a hunting accident and are disfigured for life, yeah, things might not seem so blissful.

And with foreclosures, bailouts, Iranian/N Korean nukes, global weirding, network television and a Democratic Congress, it might seem that things are bad, but really...

There's the internet, MP3 players, digital cameras and GPSs. There is nothing more exhilarating than slamming down a few microbrews, strapping on the digital player/headphones and helmet, and then ripping through the neighborhood on your Casino Cruiser to the tune of god-knows-what you've downloaded recently from the intertubes.

Life is good, people, and despite what the preachers may want you to believe, all credible evidence points to the conclusion that this is the only one you will have.

Enjoy!

Changes 13

This, ladies and gentlemen, is a picture from the future, which explains the blurriness.

It is a photo of the Imbiblocation 38 years from now.   City Center has been finished for over 20 years in this shot.

This is after the first, second and third Morlock uprisings and the Final Cleansing.

Notice how vehicles on the Strip now follow the Grid-Lok lines cut into the pavement.   Notice also, how everything is covered with a fine coat of HazGard Grey.

Life is great in the future, kids.   T?m and I still ride the Strip on our enviro-cruisers, stopping to quaff a litre or so of Pilsweiser's Non-Agin' Malt Beverage - All the taste, none of the genetic disruption - at the Imbiblocation on Sevensday mornings.

Relife to you!

(For you poor bastards who have accidentally stumbled onto this site, the yellow dot is the Imbiblocation)

Changes 11

Back to the original viewpoint - from the imbiblocation.

Look, there's glass!

In looking back on this, it doesn't seem like there's that much difference. This was shot in August of '07, though, the last shot was April, so there is a lot of difference, just none we can see.

Changes 9

Google's satellite maps are some months behind reality. I grabbed this shot off them back in April, long after the Boardwalk ceased to exist.

The arrow, of course, points to the spot where T?m and I hoist Adult Beverages in accordance with the Engandered Freedoms Act.

Changes 7

Notice those two shiny buildings in the background? Those are the Panorama  Towers.

I'm sure you can see where this is going... "You had a Strip View"

The same thing happened to early buyers in the Turnberry Towers. Their "Strip View" shortly became eclipsed by the Fountainebleu after real estate agents (reportedly) assured buyers that something like that couldn't happen.

The crowning indignity was that the Foutainebleu is a project by the developer of...

...The Turnberry Towers!

Changes 3

The casino's gone in this shot, and they're working on the hotel rooms.

The Boardwalk was not big enough to require "dropping" with the use of explosives; they just parked a wrecking ball back there and whacked at it until it was gone.

Changes 2

Although I ride the Strip regularly, it wasn't until June of '06 that I took another shot of the Boardwalk site.

It is now the site of the City Center.

Changes

This is The Boardwalk Casino.

It was flattened in '06 to make way for City Center.

As it turns out, just about every Sunday since August of '05, my friend T?m and I have been stopping here, across the street from the Boardwalk, at roughly the 3/4 point of our weekly Strip Ride, to drink beer at about 7AM. We consider the freedom to drink alcohol on a Sunday morning in public on a city street a celebration of fast-disappearing liberty here in the good ol' Oosa.

We take our ritual observance seriously.

Going forward, I am going to post every photo from our imbiblocation that I've taken from '05 until now.

Every now and then when your life gets complicated and the weasels start closing in, the only cure is to load up on heinous chemicals and then drive like a bastard from Hollywood to Las Vegas ... with the music at top volume and at least a pint of ether.

-Hunter S. Thompson

Dedicated to the other side of Las Vegas, namely; the sprawling, mad, incoherent underpinnings of the world's favorite destination.

That, and the occasional ranting about nothing in particular.
